History

The history of Sinacola is one based on family values, safe work, and forward-thinking that began over 50 years ago. Founded in 1966 by Mario Sinacola, the company known as Mario Sinacola Excavating, Inc., employed fewer than 15 workers and performed small utility installations around the Detroit metro area.

In 1979 the crippling downturn of the Michigan economy prompted Mario Sinacola and his sons to look for work elsewhere. Ultimately, their search landed them in the booming area of the southwest. Mario’s sons then relocated the company, formerly known as Mario Sinacola & Sons Excavating, Inc., to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

In May of 2017, the company was succeeded by an ESOP, providing all employees with a stake in the future growth of the business and becoming indirect owners of Sinacola.

Job Title:  Pipe Layer

Job Summary:  

The Pipe Layer is responsible for laying pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Perform any combination of the following tasks: grade trenches or culverts, position pipe, or seal joints.

Duties and Responsibilities:      

  • Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.
  • Cover pipes with earth or other materials.
  • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, or glue.
  • Cut pipes to required lengths.
  • Install or repair sanitary or storm water sewer structures or pipe systems.
  • Install or use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, or transit levels.
  • Grade or level trench bases, using tamping machines or hand tools.
  • Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors.
  • Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.
  • Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools. Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement, using magnetic or radio indicators.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 2 plus years of experience in pipe laying & utilities roles required.

Duties and Responsibilities:      

  • Operate the loader to move materials around the construction site
  • Perform routine maintenance on the loader to ensure it is in good working condition

  • Communicate with other members of the construction team to ensure efficient and effective work
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

The Laborer performs tasks involving physical labor at construction sites. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble, debris and other waste materials.

  • Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.

  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.

Job Title:  Survey Technician

Job Summary:  

The Survey Technician fulfills a field role involving survey equipment operations and aiding the Survey Party Chief with calculations and associated surveying tasks. This role entails adjusting and operating instruments like theodolite and electronic distance-measuring equipment. Additionally, they gather data, create sketches, and input information into computers. The responsibilities also encompass recording survey measurements and descriptive data, as well as compiling notes and sketches.

Duties and Responsibilities:      

  • Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings.
  • Search for section corners, property irons, and survey points.
  • Position and hold the vertical rods, or targets, that theodolite operators use for sighting to measure angles, distances, and elevations.
  • Lay out grids and determine horizontal and vertical controls.
  • Assists in conducting surveys to ascertain the locations of natural features and man-made structures on the Earth’s surface, underground, and underwater using electronic distance- measuring equipment and other surveying instruments.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Requires 1+ years of related experience

Job Summary:  

The Senior CAD Technician will perform a variety of duties related to the review and analysis of field and construction plan data, 3D surface modeling, plan quantity verifications as well as other survey functions.

Duties and Responsibilities:      

  • Operate scrapers to move earth, gravel, and other materials on construction sites
  • Working alongside other CAD team members, or independently, to generate accurate survey data for field crews and machine control systems.
  • Tracking project RFI’s, Change Orders, and Addendums while maintaining up to date field files.
  • Documenting all CAD and plan errors for RFI’s.
  • Utilizing current CAD platforms, plans, and common sense to create 3D surface models, calculate bridge structures, drainage runs, utilities etc.
  • Creating cut/fill reports and plotting exhibits for survey managers.
  • Tracking time spent on projects for budgeting purposes.
  • Creating roadway corridors.
  • Preparing drawing with high precisions and as per scale.
  • Creating and maintain project alignments, profiles, tie-ins etc.
  • Utilizing COGO and other survey methodology (bearings – distances) to generate usable survey points, maps, 3D surface models and 3D line work.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Associates or technical school degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 3+ years’ experience in a survey technician role with the ability to create and maintain 3D roadway models and calculate all aspects of a civil construction site including bridges, walls, drainage etc. required.
  • Survey experience in a crew chief type role is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans for generating field layout data.
  • Working knowledge of 3D surfaces, the ability run quantity reports and surface grade checks.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines and requirements of a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision is mandatory.
  • Accurately preform survey computations and mapping for roadway, drainage, utilities, bridges, walls and more.
  • Candidate must have strong communication and organizational skills, be a problem solver, methodical, consistent, detail oriented, and precise.
  • Ability to fully understand and follow highly complex oral and written instructions.
  • Familiar with files such as LandXML, .csv, .dwg, .dgn, .ttm, .dtm, .tin, .vce, .vcl, etc.
  • Knowledge of Bentley Microstation Inroads/Geopak Software.
  • Knowledge of Trimble Business Center software and Site Positioning equipment both GPS and robotic total stations.

  • Bilingual is a plus.

Job Summary:  

The Batch Plant Operator will manage the batch plants and personnel to ensure the operational excellence as well as managing major and minor preventative maintenance, repairs, disassembly/erection, and transporting, all conducted in a safe manner that is compliant with company policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:      

  • Conduct batch plant safety, maintenance and operations training.
  • Retain and organize safety and maintenance records.
  • Work with operational and equipment department personnel to manage batch plants at various locations throughout the designated operational areas.
  • Conduct routine inspections to be sure batch plants are in a safe and operational condition as well as in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all plant equipment is operating at levels necessary to produce products that meet or exceed quality standards.
  • Ensure plant operators and support staff have necessary tools, checklists, training, and troubleshooting capabilities to effectively and safely operate equipment on a daily basis.
  • Schedule routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Schedule transporting of batch plants across operational areas.
  • Work with supervisor, operations, and other internal departments to facilitate batch plant yard preparation activities including, permitting, ground improvements, foundations, etc…

Qualifications and Skills:

Job Title:  TMA Driver

Job Summary:  

The Truck Mounted Attenuator Driver (TMA Driver) will complete assigned traffic control task by driving a TMA to specified locations for lane closures on state highways and other roadways. TMA Driver must be constantly aware of both the construction and traffic activity taking place around them.

Duties and Responsibilities:      

  • Follow all safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety PPE.
  • Drive Management of Traffic (MOT) vehicle to and from project and on work site.
  • Place arrow board or variable message board in work area.
  • Check work zone throughout shift to be sure items are still in their proper location.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • A valid Driver’s License is required to operate company trucks.
  • Ability to complete paperwork and knowledge of federal motor carrier safety regulations & traffic control is also required.
  • TEEX certified is a plus.

Job Summary:  The Estimator will be responsible for preparing cost estimates for commercial, residential, municipal and highway construction underground utility projects and services to aid management in bidding on or determining price of service, take-offs, evaluate vendor quotes, change orders, and contract updates.

Duties and Responsibilities:      

  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
  • Coordinate with Project Coordinators, Project Managers, and Superintendents throughout the project life cycle.
  • Work closely with Engineers, Architects, Owners, Contractors and Subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in civil construction and underground utility (water, sewer, storm) estimating.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical investigations and reports.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage estimates for more than one project at any given time.
  • Basic heavy equipment knowledge (what equipment can be used for completing projects).
  • Experience in HCSS-Heavy Bid, AG-tek, preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel spreadsheet development.

  • Participate in review sessions with related Field Supervision concerning labor, materials, equipment, subcontracts, cost, productivity, schedules, and tracking.
  • Facilitate project completion through coordinating efforts between appropriate Project Superintendents, Subcontractors, and the Client.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • BS degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or equivalent required.
  • 5 + years as a Project Engineer or equivalent civil construction experience is required.
  • Related experience should be in the public roadway and private development sectors.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods); craft agreements, jurisdiction, negotiations; engineering, cost control schedules and safety required.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Thorough understanding of industry practices, processes, and standards, and their impact on project activities

Qualifications and Skills:

  • P6 scheduling experience required.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Accounting, or related field.
  • 5+ years in Project Controls, Estimating, or Project Management in Heavy Civil Construction.
  • Experience with scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) and accounting software (e.g., Spectrum, Vista, Sage) a plus.

  • Effectively plan, schedule, and manage projects to meet customer’s needs and expectations.

  • Ensures safety standards and guidelines are followed on the jobsite.
  • Monitor all contractual commitments to ensure that all work is being performed in accordance with the specifications, drawings, and terms of the contract, that change orders and claims are processed in a timely manner.
  • Review invoices and applications for payment to assure accuracy.
  • Conduct meetings with client to provide project status updates which can include, but not limited to, projected crew work schedules, revisions to scope (change control form) and schedule.
  • Conduct internal company meetings to coordinate project administration, engineering, material availability, construction activity and resolve project problems.
  • Monitor the material delivery effort to assure proper material order are met regarding contract commitments.
  • Ensure the following documents are completed with proper review: project plans, permits, schedule, project status reports and any other applicable documentation.
  • Complete all items required to close out project and organize project post-job reviews to ensure that all documents are complete. Provide leadership and training to project personnel.
  • Monitor and manage utilization of assets including direct labor, fleet, tools and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
